Yuna and Ravlen sat cross-legged on Ravlen’s bed after lights out. Binner was snoring beneath them, the rumble loud enough to fill the dorm.

“How do you do it?” Yuna asked. “You just float above the ground?”

“No, my body doesn’t move. It stays in place, just my head goes up.” Ravlen felt she wasn’t describing it well.

“Your head separates from your body?” Yuna’s eyes widened.

“No, no, no. Nothing like that. It’s more like… my mind. My mind goes up.”

“But your mind can’t see.”

“Right. I don’t see, not in the way that we’re seeing right now, not with my eyes. But it creates a picture. Wind hits a tree, flowing around every bit of bark, and then I can see the bark. A sound bounces off the ground, off grasses, off leaves, and the details sharpen in my mind.”

Yuna sat back. “That sounds better than your head floating off your body.”

“Yeah, that would be weird.”

“Very weird.”
